Avocado + Ice Cream = A Delicious Treat?!
Yes, you read the title of this blog post correctly. Yep, really!
Avocado ice cream is the new, on-trend post-dinner treat, with the Kitchn site saying the humble avo actually makes for the creamiest ice cream. But why – and how? More importantly, would you make ice cream made from avocado?
Yes, now avocado ice cream is in the picture, long gone are those tried and trusted flavours – chocolate, strawberry, maybe even mint, or rum and raisin (pictured below). Perhaps, anyway.
Avo is the new in flavour when it comes to ice cream.
In a piece all about the weird yet wonderful flavour combo, the Kitchn team says: ‘Mention avocado ice cream and the first question you’re likely to get asked is, “What does it taste like?” The flavor can best be described as the avocado-iest avocado you’ve ever tasted. Thanks to some milk and cream, a squeeze of lemon, and just a touch of sugar, avocado ice cream tastes like a totally heightened version of avocado. It’s unbelievably creamy, rich, and totally refreshing. Plus, it couldn’t be easier to pull off. You’ll want to keep this one on repeat all summer.’
So, how do you make avocado ice cream? It’s relatively simple, believe it or not – and it takes fewer than 10 minutes of hands-on work, says Kitchn.
In just four easy steps, you can try making the ice cream for yourself. Here’s how :
- Begin by blending two large or three medium ripe avocados, along with a tablespoon of lemon juice (after squeezing the juice from a medium-sized lemon), 125ml whole milk, 150g cup of granulated sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt.
- Whisk the mixture and transfer to a large bowl, whisking in 355ml of cold heavy cream.
- Now, churn the mixture in an ice cream maker until it is smooth, creamy and thick
- Finally, freeze the ice cream in an airtight, freezer-safe container – for at least a few hours before serving it.
