Last-minute Halloween Recipes
Left your Halloween prep to the last minute? We hear you! This year has gone ridiculously fast – and October is no exception. It certainly feels like we woke up on October 1st only a few days ago – and just like that, it’s the 28th.
If you’re not a huge fan of Halloween, no worries…skip past these recipes and instead try seasonally appropriate dishes the whole family will love tucking into. We recommend this hearty sausage casserole, which features Branston Pickle and plenty of parsnips – ideal for a mid-week or weekend meal. A member of the My Appliances team has cooked it up a few times and says her family can’t get enough of it!
For dessert, you can’t go far wrong with an apple pie, like this one via BBC Good Food – the site doesn’t call it the ultimate apple pie recipe for nothing.
Now, for some Halloween recipes…
White with Fright Oreo Cheesecake
Year round, this is just an ordinary cheesecake. During October though, it’s a Halloween-inspired dessert. Why? It has ‘Fright’ in its title now autumn is in full swing. Olive magazine has the full recipe here – and we reckon you’ll love giving it a try.
It’s an easy enough tutorial to follow that your young kids or relatives will have fun getting involved too.
Spider Biscuits
Throwing a Halloween party and want to give the kids something sweet but scary? These spider biscuits via BBC Good Food are a great choice. Taking just 25 minutes to prepare and 12 minutes to cook, you can have them baked before the kids get home from school. Even if you’re not hosting a party, these make a great post-dinner treat for sweet-toothed little ones.
Candy Apples
Now here’s a traditional, seasonal treat if ever there was one! Candy apples are huge in America and they’ve gained traction over here too, popping up in supermarkets in individually-wrapped packets. You can make your own more cheaply, though – and all you need is eight red apples, 400g caster sugar, a teaspoon of lemon juice, four tablespoons of golden syrup, a few drops of red food colouring (optional) and eight lolly sticks.
Find the full recipe here.
What about some savoury Halloween recipes, we hear you ask? No problem; here are a couple to try ahead of Sunday, October 31 – or on Halloween itself.
Healthy Halloween Stuffed Peppers
We love the look of these ghoulish Halloween stuffed peppers, which are both spooky-looking and healthy! Again, BBC Good Food has the full recipe, which makes a great snack or evening meal for hungry little trick or treaters.
The great thing about this recipe is you can stuff your peppers with anything you want. While the recipe linked above calls for aubergine and quinoa, amongst other ingredients, you could fill yours with cooked mince or cheese and tuna. Or anything else that takes your fancy.
Mummified Sausage Rolls
Head to the Hello magazine website for this fun recipe, which takes sausages and ‘mummifies’ them for a pre-dinner snack your kids will love.
