Five Healthy Hacks to Try Ahead of Your Hols

Your summer holiday’s just around the corner, so you may want to feel a little lighter – and possibly brighter, in the process! – before you jet off.  Helping you squeeze into those beach shorts and ensuring you can indulge a little more while you’re away, our top tips help you tone up naturally.

We don’t want to promote crash diets here at My Appliances; the best way to trim down is simply to watch your diet and do some more exercise. And if you’re finding it difficult to keep away from the sweet treats in the office, or you can’t resist that family bag of crisps when you get home, you might find our top tips helpful. Read on…

Think ‘Colour’

In general, beige-coloured foods like chips, cake and crisps are bad for you – we all know that! Meanwhile, naturally colourful ingredients like tomatoes, peppers, carrots, and strawberries will add a little life to your plate, while ensuring you can enjoy a healthier diet.

Consider making each pre-holiday meal more colourful, adding fruit and veg that’ll add interest as well as nutrition to your plate.

Blend!

Not such a big fan of fruit? Blend it in a healthy and satisfying morning smoothie! Add natural yoghurt, a little milk, a banana and some berries – strawberries and raspberries work best – before blitzing up and serving! You could also chuck in a handful of breakfast oats for a texture change.

Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

When people embark on healthy eating regimes, they’ll try to go ‘cold turkey’, cutting everything they love out of their diet in a bid to trim down. But a little bit of what you enjoy will spur you on – just don’t eat the whole packet of biscuits! A treat every now and then can be good; follow the 80/20 rule (80% healthy and 20% not so healthy) each week and you’ll find you feel a lot better in just a few weeks’ time.

If you must satisfy your sweet tooth but you’d still like to be healthy, don’t overlook the natural sugar hit you’ll find in fruit. Fill up your bowl with kiwi, raspberries, strawberries and melon and tuck in!

Drink Up!

Quench your thirst in the weeks running up to your holiday – and we don’t mean with wine! Water can actually stop hunger in its tracks, as often, it’s not a pang of hunger you’re feeling at all. Instead, you’ll simply be dehydrated. So, get some water down you and you may find that you don’t need that second mid-morning snack!

Move More

At every opportunity, move a little more. If you’re waiting for the kettle to boil in the office, get some steps in – or if you’ve taken the kids to the park, jog on the spot while you’re waiting for them to come down the slide. Whatever works for you. But most of all, keep it fun!
