It’s Ice Cream Month: Here’s Some Ideas and Inspiration

It’s Ice Cream Month, also known as…the best month ever! This July, celebrate all the great things about this chilly dessert. From keeping us cool during sweltering days to comforting us after a difficult day, there’s little not to love about ice cream (unless you’re lactose intolerant, that is).

Here are some ideas to help you celebrate this comforting sweet treat this month. Read on!

Try New Flavours

You really can’t go wrong with classic ice cream flavours like vanilla and chocolate, but in the spirit of Ice Cream Month, why not be a little adventurous and try something new? Take your taste buds on a gastronomical journey the next time you stop by your local supermarket’s frozen treat aisle.

Experimenting with new flavours can be as simple as trying out familiar flavours that you’ve simply never had before —pistachio, raspberry ripple or even passionfruit, for example. Or you could push your limits and opt for more…unusual flavours. Chai ice cream, anyone?

Whip Up a Sundae

Sundaes are the perfect way to have a solo ice cream party. All you’ll need is a serving bowl, your favourite ice cream (the more flavours, the better!), ice cream sauce (think: chocolate, caramel or strawberry sauce) and toppings. Go wild with your toppings! The sky is the limit in terms of what you can add to your sundae. Chocolate chips, chopped nuts, hundreds and thousands, marshmallows, shredded coconut, sweets, and even chopped fruit make excellent toppings.

Don’t forget the whipped cream and maraschino cherry for the final touches! Now get yourself a spoon and enjoy your fancy treat.

Make Ice Cream From Scratch

If you have an ice cream maker, now’s your time to use it to its full advantage. There’s no shortage of ice cream flavours you can make with your handy tool! Full-fat milk, double cream, eggs, sugar and other toppings and flavourings are all you’ll need to throw into your ice cream maker.

No ice cream maker? No problem. Give this instant vanilla ice cream recipe a try. You’ll feel like quite the scientist making ice cream this way! Or, if you have a bit more patience, you can make ice cream on your hob.

Support Local Businesses

The coronavirus lockdowns in the UK are set to lift on July 19. On this day, you can arm yourself with a face mask and plenty of hand sanitiser, then head off to your nearest ice cream shop to indulge in a cold treat while also supporting local workers. How’s that for a double win?

Go for a celebratory cake-flavoured ice cream scoop, or take the opportunity to explore your local ice cream shop’s unique flavours (now’s the time to try that chai tea ice cream, if they have it). Don’t forget to snap a pic of your first post-lockdown ice cream cone and share it with your friends. #yum!

We hope you’ll join us this July in celebrating this quintessential summer dessert. Now get on out there and ring in Ice Cream Month with a loaded waffle cone!

Until next time…
