10 Kitchen Hacks You Wish You’d Known Sooner

Good long weekend? We hope you had a fabulous Easter break and enjoyed hosting your friends and family. But if you found the preparations ahead of the big day stressful, perhaps you’ll wish you’d known the top 10 kitchen hacks we’re about to set out in this blog post.

Trust us, now you know these you’ll wonder how you ever got by before. Read on…

1. Here’s an Egg-cellent Idea

Making a salad for guests? If you’re adding eggs, instead of boiling them, try steaming them in a steamer basket over boiling water for around 15 minutes. Why? You’ll find the shells will slip right off, saving you time and stress!

 2. This One’s a Hot Topic…

Embarrassed by the state of your microwave? Clean the crusts left by old spills with a soaked, hot sponge, before cooking it in the microwave for 60 seconds. The moisture will loosen any grime and make cleaning the appliance an absolute doddle! Be very careful not to burn your hands, though.

3. Read All About It!

Those upright plastic magazine racks you use to store your favourite reads make great fridge or freezer dividers when space is an issue.

4. We’ll Rais-in a Glass to That

Keep Champagne bubbly by dropping a raisin or two into the bottle. The natural sugars will do their thing and ensue there’s smiles all round when your guests arrive for dinner.

5.When Life Gives You (Old) Lemons…

…use them to freshen up your cutlery. If they lemons are a little past their best, don’t worry; simply slice them up into chunks, and add one or two of them to a jar of hot water and place your clean cutlery in for 10 minutes or so, before polishing it up.

6. Put a Label On It

The best way to organise your kitchen? With labels! Look out for ones made from chalk board material, then you can swap and change the contents by simply scrubbing out your scribbles and writing something new – et voila!

7. A Scent-sational Hack

Move over, fancy candles! If your kitchen’s been left ponging after cooking a heavy meal, break out the vanilla essence! Just put two caps full in an oven-proof dish and pop it in your oven for an hour or so at 300 degrees. Wafting through your kitchen, the smell will give guests a wonderfully welcoming whiff of fragrance when they arrive for the evening.

8. The Spice of Life

Don’t throw any empty Tic Tac containers! Instead, use them to store loose spices and arrange them neatly in a cupboard or drawer. After labelling them up, of course.

9. Hang in There!

By utilising the height of your room you can free up much-needed cupboard space in an otherwise too-small kitchen. With that in mind, hang pots and pans from the ceiling, or on walls. It’s a great idea, as well as being simple and relatively inexpensive, too.

10. Don’t Be Bamboo-zled

That spare bamboo steamer you’d usually use to prepare your usual Chinese feast? Use it to store onions, garlic and shallots in the meantime. Due to them being well-ventilated, steamers like these are ideal for storing veg. Doing so will help make room for other essentials in your fridge, too.
