Ready to update your kitchen in 2020? Here’s how…
A fresh new year is a great time to make changes to your home – not least your kitchen. It’ll have taken quite a hammering over the festive period, what with family gatherings, seasonal soirees and delicious buffets.
So, whether you’re simply giving it an early spring clean or you’re treating yourself – and your property – to some brand-new appliances – maybe you should consider how your kitchen could work a bit harder for you.
Often, all it takes is a bit of a sort out and some new utensils to breathe new life into your space – but if your oven, microwave or wine cooler is looking a bit tired, you may also benefit from some of the deals here on the My Appliances website.
Start by Employing the Marie Kondo Method!
Have you heard of Marie Kondo? She’s a Japanese tidying expert and she took the Internet by storm some time ago, thanks to her book ‘The Life-changing Magic of Tidying’ and her complementing Netflix series.
Marie tells people to get rid of the items in their lives that aren’t practical or that don’t ‘spark joy’. What on earth does the latter mean? It basically means if said item doesn’t make you extremely happy, pop it in the charity bag. If it’s useful, though, hang onto it.
By taking on this method (known as the ‘KonMarie method’), you can bag up lots of stuff to donate to your local British Heart Foundation or Oxfam shop. Go on; start today.
Rearrange Everything Beautifully
There’s something hugely satisfying about having a big clear-out, isn’t there?
Once you’ve filled a few bags of old crockery to donate, arrange the stuff you kept in a practical but aesthetically pleasing way. When you’ve finished organising, you’ll find that preparing food becomes an absolute breeze; you’ll know exactly where everything is, and you may be able to make better use of your cupboard space.
Well before you put everything back in its rightful place, though, give your cupboards a much-needed wipe down, allowing them to air dry first. It’s surprising what a good clean can do!
Consider investing in a label maker as well. It’s handy for labelling up glass jars containing spices, or even leftovers kept in the fridge. If you’ve vowed to become more organised in 2020, a label maker is a good way to get going. You can use it elsewhere around the home and it really will become your go-to organising tool .
Buy Less
Want to keep your kitchen clutter-free? Buy less. It goes without saying really. Do you really need another casserole dish, after all? And can you get by with one electric whisk or pestle and mortar? We think ‘absolutely’.
Need something desperately but know you’ll only use it once in a blue moon? That’s what neighbours are for. Ask them if you can borrow what you need; why ever not? You can do the same for them when they need to borrow that fondue set you hardly ever use.
