It’s National Burger Day: Here Are Some Top Tips
Thanks to the rise of American fast food restaurants in the early 20th century, burgers have spread far and wide so everyone can enjoy this delicious treat. All you burger lovers out there will be glad to know that National Burger Day is coming up here in the UK very soon.
That’s right! This coming Thursday, August 26, celebrate all the great things about this world-famous meat patty with our top tips.

Make Your Patties from Scratch
Sure, you can buy frozen beef patties from the shops, but in the spirit of National Burger Day, why not make your patties from scratch? You can buy ground beef from the butcher’s, or you can take it a step further by actually grinding your own meat. Now’s your chance to buy that electric meat grinder you’ve been eyeing for some time now. Or, if you’re looking for even more kitchen cred, why not go for a hand cranked grinder? You can’t get any fresher (and cooler) than hand-cranked ground beef patties.
Personalise Your Burger
Burgers don’t have to be the fatty, grease-dripping creations you can expect from any fast food restaurant. Though it might be tempting to indulge on National Burger Day by simply stopping by your local burger joint, you can enjoy a good burger without any of the unhealthy trappings.
At home, you have control over how your burgers are made. If you’re vegetarian or vegan, you can prepare a nice veggie patty (or two) for yourself. Whether your patties are made from beef or veg, you have the option of grilling your patties on a griddle or an outdoor grill. Perhaps you’d even like to fry your patties. It’s up to you!
Pick Your Toppings
Of course, we can’t speak about personalising your burger without talking about all the toppings available to you, can we? Really, the sky is the limit. Unless a plain burger-and-bun combo is more your style, you’ll want to keep some classic burger toppings at hand, like lettuce, sliced tomatoes, pickles, onions and sliced cheese, as well as common condiments like ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. You can even reach for other toppings that suit your fancy, like bacon, chilli or even a fried egg.
The Perfect Burger Stacking Order
Next comes an often contested question: in what order do you stack your burger ingredients? Obviously the two halves of the bun go at the very top and bottom of your burger, but where should the rest of the ingredients go?
It’s ultimately up to you how you stack your burger, but a generally accepted order goes as follows (starting from the bottom): bottom bun, condiments, lettuce, tomatoes, burger patty (with optional cheese), onions, pickles, more condiments and finally the top bun. If you have any other toppings to add, you can add them above the patty.
We hope these tips will help you make the most of National Burger Day. Now get on out there and fire up the grill!
Until next time…
