Affordable Appliances to Spruce Up Your Space

What was the last appliance you bought for your kitchen? Perhaps it was a hand mixer, or maybe it was an oven, or even a wine cooler? Most of us buy a new kitchen gadget for practicality reasons alone; we’d like to be able to cook our food through – quickly and efficiently – or cool our favorite tipple to the optimum temperature.

But let’s not forget that we’re also driven by great style – and we’d like our appliances to look the part as well as serve a purpose. So, if you’re looking to provide a solution to a kitchen woe AND ensure your space looks worthy of a lengthy spread in a glossy magazine, take a look at these practical yet affordable appliances…

The Glass Tea Percolator

Tea percolators seem to be all the rage lately, don’t they? Fast overtaking coffee as the drink du jour, tea is a firm favourite of the team here at My Appliances. In fact, we really don’t know how we’d get through the day without our morning cuppa.

We’re considering replacing our well-loved kettle with one of these, actually, since they do the job of making a fine cuppa while also looking great. I mean, who wouldn’t want to stick their hand up to do the brew round when a glass teapot with bamboo handle is the drink-making weapon of choice?!

Click the link above and feast your eyes on this contemporary tea pot, with its glass body, stainless steel lid and bamboo handle.

Other glass tea pots are available, though, and they may just make your kitchen look as stylish as this one…

The Whistling Kettle

Your nanna probably had one of these: behold, the whistling kettle. The good news is that you only need to search ‘whistling kettle’ on Google to find that there are plenty of them doing the rounds online. These revival models bring a touch of nostalgia to your kitchen – and they really do look great.

Plus, if you’ve ever wondered how the kettle got its whistle, the University of Cambridge has the answer.

The Freestanding Mixer

Sure, the KitchenAid variety of freestanding mixer is expensive, but there are plenty of copycat models on the Internet – and with The Great British Bake Off just around the corner (it’s back on our screens on Tuesday, August 28), we’re already thinking of investing in one of these. Each year, we watch the programme in awe, vowing to recreate some of its signature recipes ourselves – and each year we don’t bother, since we don’t have the gear to get going. This year will be different. Trust us.

Copper Pans and Utensils

We waxed lyrical about copper only recently, since it’s taking centre stage in kitchens everywhere. The great thing about copper is it can add interest to any space – and you can get copper-coloured items that won’t break the bank.

Look for copper vases for your dining table, copper pans for over the cooker, or even copper dinnerware. Oh, the possibilities.

And don’t forget: one of the easiest ways to spruce up your kitchen is with a bold splashback like this one. There are plenty of colours available, too, each one designed to make your space look fab – and without costing a fortune.
