Bagel Bonanza!
I don’t know one person who doesn’t love a bagel, whether it is topped with ham and cheese or smothered in butter. Whichever way you love to eat yours, we all can agree that they are just delicious!
Stacy and I met some fantastic guys on the New York Bagel stand at the BBC Good Food Show and had a few tasters of some incredible recipes including, Blueberry & Cream Cheese, Roasted Veg, Houmus & Cream Cheese and Pastrami, Mustard & Slaw.
We were surprised at the amount of different flavoured bagels you could get and also what you can actually put in one which made us instantly stock up on bags of the doughy good stuff! Along with the bagels, we were given complimentary recipe books for us to try out some different recipes at home for ourselves. Two styles that really stood out to us were ‘Holey Guacamole’ and ‘Beanut-Panana’. They are both really simple to make and taste so good! So we though we were share the recipes with you now….
Holey Guacamole
The ingredients you will need are (for 1):
- 1 plain bagel
- 2 slices of smoked salmon
- 4 sun-dried tomatoes
- 1/2 an avocado
- 2 tsps of cream cheese
- Salad leaves
Firstly, halve the bagel and spread a layer of the cream cheese on the base.
Place slices of avocado evenly in a circle on top of the cream cheese layer. Use as little or as much as you wish.
On top of the sliced avocado, place the sun-dried tomatoes around evenly around the bagel hole.
Top with the smoked salmon and the desired amount of salad leaves.
Neatly place the top slice of bagel on top, slice in half and enjoy!
This is perfect if you are looking for a yummy sandwich alternative!
A top tip the New York Bagels guys say is….’For an alternative omega-3 hit, swap jthe salmon for mackerel, tuna or sardine and replace the salad leaves with spinach for a fuelling wholesome lunch.’ So try this out with whatever fish you wish and let us know what you think! Why not try it with a sesame seed bagel?
Beanut-Panana
The ingredients you will need are (for 1):
- 1 cinnamon & raisin bagel
- 3 tsps crunchy peanut butter
- 1/2 a sliced banana
Firstly, halve the cinnamon & raisin bagel then lightly toast.
Spread across the crunchy peanut butter, be as generous as you want! We like ours extra peanut buttery!
Place the banana slices around the bagel hole.
Now you have a great afternoon snack or an even more delicious breakfast treat!
A good top tip for the ‘beanut-panana’ is to add some strawberry or raspberry jam for a twist on the classic peanut butter and jelly combo.
So here are two fantastic recipes for you to try out for yourself, you will not be disappointed!
