Contemporary Kitchens: 2016’s Biggest Trends
Thinking about giving your kitchen the update you think it deserves? Well, you certainly won’t be short of inspiration; there’s tonnes of exciting interiors trends out there at the moment – and we reckon there’s got to be at least one that has your name written all over it.
To help you, we’ve compiled three of our favourite trends for spring summer 2016. Read on…
Simple Means Chic
When it comes to contemporary kitchens, you can’t go far wrong by keeping décor simple and utensils, gadgets, pots and pans to a minimum. While your kitchen should certainly be practical, that doesn’t mean it should also be cluttered.
A key trend for this year is the simple yet chic kitchen, complete with a soothing colour palette of neural shades. Often paired with pale pastels like duck egg blue or mint green, the simple, stylish kitchen still offers great craftsmanship and convenience – just without the fuss of a space crammed with crockery.
You’ll love it if…you’re a firm believer that a tidy home equals a tidy mind. Clear the clutter and you’ll feel great, we say.
Copper is Key
It’s been dominating the interiors magazines for some time now – and it’s with good reason. While some may not be a big fan of its retro stylings, others can’t get enough of copper.
Adding a cool and quirky touch to an otherwise simple kitchen, copper can bring colour to a neutrally-decorated space in an instant.
We particularly love this copper-coloured kettle (above) but keep your eyes peeled for all manner of accessories in the shade and material online and in shops. We’ve spotted everything from copper tea and coffee canisters to copper-coloured vases – and each looks great in almost any area of the kitchen.
If you’re not entirely sure where to start, go for some copper pans, which are both practical and nice to look at.

A Baker’s Paradise
Finally, we couldn’t sign off this article without mentioning the sheer power of shows like the Great British Bake Off when it comes to indulging our every kitchen whim, could we?
After all, according to a recent piece on The Daily Express site, kitchen gadgets – everything from freestanding electric mixers to cheese toastie makers – are well and truly at the top of our shopping lists.
That’s right; not content with simply having a kitchen complete with double oven and fancy microwave, we’re now adding a whole host of futuristic-looking gadgets to our space, too. And it’s all in a bid to make like the Bake Off contestants and whip up a deliciously fluffy Victoria sponge without even breaking a sweat. Mover over manual whisks, the freestanding Kenwood mixer is definitely where it’s at!
You’ll love it if: a home isn’t a home to you without a gadget or two (we’re poets and we didn’t know it!)
