Countdown to the New Year! Some Goals for Your Kitchen in 2018

The New Year is the perfect opportunity to start afresh – in your life, at work – even in your home. Whether that’s setting yourself new goals to achieve, or having a clear out of things you no longer need or use, there’s something quite therapeutic about being more organised.

If you want to set your New Year goals on a more homely basis, why not give your kitchen a revamp? It doesn’t have to cost a lot and, as you go through every nook and crevice, you might just find yourself coming across some items you didn’t even know you had that you can put to good use.

Getting Started

The easiest way to spruce up a room, and particularly a kitchen, is to first give it a good clean and take stock of what you have and haven’t got. Having a good look around a room is a great way to envisage the items you’d like to see on a counter, or on display on a shelf or unit somewhere, or how you’d like the room as a whole to look.

Take Stock

As many people tend to make a New Year’s resolution to be healthier, take a look in your cupboards to see if there’s any appliances in them that might help you on your way. If, for instance, you’ve got an old blender that’s been gathering dust, why not dig it out and start off each morning of 2018 with a delicious fruit smoothie? They’re quick and easy to make, and most blenders, including the hugely popular NutriBullet, come with dishwasher-safe cups and lids, so there’s little to no mess for you to clean up.

Spruce Things Up

Giving a kitchen a new colour scheme by painting the walls or purchasing matching colour appliances – most people tend to opt for the kettle and toaster – is a quick and simple way to give your much-loved and heavily used space a little bit of long overdue TLC. If you opt for a repaint and are stuck as to what colour scheme to go with, blue remains one of the most popular options. Looking for something a little bolder? Brighter colours such as copper and gold are key trends for 2018. If while you paint, you want to make your space looks bigger than it actually is, try painting the ceiling one or two shades lighter than the walls.
