It’s January: What are your kitchen resolutions?

What on earth is a kitchen resolution, you may ask? It’s a new year’s resolution which specifically involves or will positively impact the hub of your home – your beloved kitchen.

Whether your goal in 2022 is to overhaul your kitchen and give it a lick of paint, or if you’d simply like to try some new cuisines, we’ve got you covered here at My Appliances, thanks to these top tips and tricks. Read on…

Resolution: Declutter Your Kitchen

A brand new year is as good a time as any to declutter – and especially in the kitchen, where we all seem to find most of the mess. After all, everyone has that one drawer which gets stuffed full of paperwork, and we’re all guilty of hanging onto an appliance or two that we’re just not using. So, what can you do?

Tip: Start as you mean to go on and declutter your space – once and for all. Begin with one drawer or commit to tackling one area of your kitchen each day. By the end of the week, your space will be looking spic and span. You could also set a timer on your watch or mobile phone for, say, 10 minutes, and see how much you can get done in a short burst. Go on, create a space to be proud of in 2022.

Resolution: Improve Your Diet

Are you placing too many takeaway orders in a standard week? One of the keys to eating better is to plan ahead, so if you want to improve your diet, why not consider batch cooking some meals on a weekend?

Tip: Alongside your partner or even your children, spend a day as a family batch cooking lots of meals everyone will enjoy. Then, simply freeze them in individual foil containers or plastic storage boxes and take them out to heat up, as and when needed. It’ll save your sanity in the week, when you can’t decide what to cook, and it’ll help you fill an otherwise lazy Saturday or Sunday with some good home cooking.

Why not try going vegan this January, too? Veganuary gets more popular year on year and it can prove a healthier way of life – just make sure you’re packing lots of fruit and veg into your diet and you’ll be getting plenty of nutrients into your day – and week.

Resolution: Try Something New

Everyone has a failsafe recipe (or five) that they roll out throughout the week. If you’ve ever fancied trying new cuisines or fresh dishes, though, now’s the time. Why not allocate an evening (weekend nights usually work best) to giving something new a go – whether that’s sushi, Lebanese, Thai or Japanese food. You may discover you love a dish you were otherwise reluctant to try.

Tip: If trying a new cuisine seems a bit OTT for a standard weekend evening, invite round some friends and it’ll give you an incentive to whip up a cultural feast.
