Three Simple Ways to Cut Calories

If you’re already turning your attention to your plans for summer, you might also be thinking about how you can squeeze into that swimsuit.

While we don’t recommend drastically cutting calories – a healthy, balanced diet is the best way to go if you’re wanting to lose fat and feel great for it – we can suggest a few changes that’ll go a long way to helping you reach your goals.

Losing an extra pound or two isn’t about starving yourself; there are ways and means you can get the nutrients your body needs without going OTT.

With that in mind, here’s our top three tips to cut calories without realising you are.

  1. Cut Down on Carbs
The body needs carbohydrates just as much as it needs the other food groups, but think about not piling so much bread, pasta or rice onto your plate. Consider purchasing a Spiruliser – a handy gadget which turns veg like courgettes into spaghetti-like strands – and you’re unlikely to notice the difference in, say, a ‘pasta’ dish or stir fry. Ensure you still consume some carbohydrates each day though – just don’t overdo it.

Swap Sugar for Sweetner

Can’t drink tea or coffee without sugar? Replace it with sweetener – opting for a natural version like Stevia – and you could save yourself hundeds if not thousands of calories over a typical month.

You can also buy natural sweeteners in power form – ideal for sprinkling over your cereal.

Don’t Give In to the Afternoon Energy Slump

When 3 o’clock rolls around in the office, can you typically be found reaching for the sugary snacks? The trick here, then, is simply don’t buy them in the first place. Instead, stock up your office drawer or locker with healthy snacks like nuts and fruit. Sweet tooth? Chop an apple into bite-sized slices and dunk into a little honey.
