Pantry Organisation Ideas

Does your kitchen have a pantry that’s in desperate need of organisation? Or perhaps you’d simply like to give your cupboards a big tidy up, adding handy storage baskets and generally ensuring you can easily get your hands on everything you need for cooking or baking. Read on, then, for some inspiration from the My Appliances team…

Have a Clear Out

Start by emptying out your pantry or kitchen cupboards, discarding any items – old tins and packets of food – which are past their best. If you have plenty of duplicates of food items you simply won’t use before they expire, consider dropping them off at a local food bank. Next, vow to be more savvy in terms of how much food you buy and store, to ensure nothing goes to waste unnecessarily.

Clean, Clean, Clean!

Once you’ve emptied out your cupboards, this is where some good old fashioned elbow grease comes in useful. So, grab some cleaning products and a cloth and give your pantry or cupboards a good wipe down. Then, leave the cupboard door open so the shelves can air dry, before sorting out the items you’d like to place back in.

Devise a System

To ensure your pantry doesn’t become cluttered again, it’s time to devise a failsafe system. Do you find, for example, that food is going to waste, because you can’t properly see everything? Perhaps some of the most-used kitchen ingredients are too high to reach. Or maybe you have multiple tins of something you just don’t eat anymore.

Take time, then, to plan a system which will best work for you. Sit down and think about what will work best where, ensuring the spices, herbs and tins you reach for the most are easy to grab when you need them.

Invest in Some Good Quality Storage Solutions

A well-organised pantry starts with a good storage solution – or many! So, invest in some decent quality baskets or jars to organise stock cubes, spices and everything in between.

Discount shops like B&M Bargains, Home Bargains and The Range offer plenty of storage solutions which won’t break the bank.

Glass jars with airtight lids are practical and will look good in any kitchen. You can label them up yourself or you can even buy pre-made food labels online, from online stores like Etsy. Glass jars with bamboo lids are on trend at the moment, so keep your eyes peeled for storage options that will come in useful while transforming your space.

Get Creative

Don’t want to splash out on a whole new line of storage baskets and jars? We don’t blame you. Instead, use old jam or coffee jars to store smaller items or ingredients, such as those aforementioned stock cubes, or sugar. Don’t forget to take a look on sites like Pinterest for some much-needed inspiration, too.
